Stick a Fork in It

I am starting to feel like the Little Engine That Could.  Almost done.

Ignorance Is Bliss

Let's get started.

Okay.  I need to make sure I have two bottoms and two tops in both navy and grey.
Hmm.
I did eliminate the lounge wear and cardigans for this step.

Core group

I had everything in navy but a navy jumper.
I definitely need to keep that in my wardrobe.

Grey was another matter.  I added in my dark grey cords and then it
was a toss up on the sweater.  I had quite a few to choose from but these two made the cut.
I also have an old J Crew v neck cashmere sweater that has really seen better days.
I will hold off replacing to see if I really need to.

So, one is casual, the other a bit nicer and sexier.  They are both keepers.

I know she said four, two tops and two bottoms, but I am rebelling just a bit.

Well hell, I need a grey blouse/shirt  I think.

Maybe this one is in my future (I ordered it):

J.Crew Polka-dot flannel shirt
J Crew Polka Dot Flannel...Flannel!

I'm ready to be done.

So what am I missing?

Core group

DAMN.  I really don't have any pattern.  But then, I really don't like pattern.

Let's add just a few items, all that I presently own and love...

Core group

Accessories

I added a green blouse, light blue and white silk blouse, a white tee, flannel shirt,
grey/navy tee, stripe long sleeve tee, big thick navy cardigan, grey sweater coat, navy trench,
moto boots, brown kicks, and two scarves.

Gee, I think The Vivienne Files added two maybe four.  Who's counting?!
She's in Paris so she won't mind.

My "To Buy" list includes the two loafers/flats and a colorful bracelet.
I got the navy cords yesterday.  And I'm still waiting for Em's gift to arrive.  Yay!

Now what about the rest of my junk?  Some is getting packed away in case I miss it.
Some is getting sent to Goodwill.  Some is getting thrown away...stains, holes, pills, toxic pits.
And then some is remaining in my closet.

Example:

Merlot

Love this color but can not wear next to my face.  I own these lovely accessories and they
look fantastic with my navy and grey core clothes.

Cobalt

I am loving this color and am seriously contemplating the coat and sweater (if the thing
would ever go on sale).  I think I would look great in my navy or grey with these
 wonderful items.

Petrol Bag

Or maybe just a new bag in a new color?  Would look terrific with grey too.

More power to you if you do the 33 project or are a minimalist.  Not me.

This has been a wonderful chore exercise to do before fall/winter comes and I just buy buy buy.
Time to get on Pinterest!!!

  1. Oh my gosh I think you did a wonderful job, so organized! And lovely, all of it!
Also so many steps but you've had real stick-to and now you have it all together. Let us know if it does make it easier to get dressed...and it definitely seems like this is a great way to avoid buying unnecessary stuff.

    1. I am exhausted. This also helped me rediscover some really nice things I actually own. Hunter and I will need to shop for shoes and visit Hermes in Chicago again. This may become a yearly adventure.

    1. It is/was complicated. It does all come down to loving it and it loving you back. If there is even the tiniest question, back it should go.

  5. Well done! I love that you have added some cobalt and merlot. A girl can't always play by the rules! You will have to let us know if you miss the rest and ever sneak some other treasures back to join the closet. I am sure your efforts will pay off and dressing will be simplified. I need to adopt your last comment as my new slogan. "If there is even the tiniest question, back it should go." That alone should help reduce unworn with tags items found in many a closet. Enjoy the fruits of your hard work.

    1. The goal is to shop with a vision. I do hope I take this to heart because I won't be going through this again. The excess was a bit depressing really but the end product was worth it. Thanks for coming along with me. Much love.

  6. Well done. Love the pops of blue-use it myself with all the black I wear. I wear prints or I would always look like I was going to a funeral(or in mourning). The motivating thing for me in your journey is the fact that you
get to go to the Hermes store in Chicago.

    1. Hermes is new to me. Hubs likes to buy me jewelry but believe it or not, I'm usually indifferent...not now :)

  7. Well done you! I think you've got a great selection of items here. I'd go for a new bag or shoes in cobalt!

    1. I'm infatuated with the coat, which I'll hardly wear. Agreed, first up is shoes.

  8. Gorgeous. I would not have the discipline. I'm having a stylist pull some pieces from my closet today for a photo shoot at my house and suspect she will lie down and weep.

    1. Or she may just ask for your credit card and then we'll see who does the weeping.

  9. Well done!! I'm with Wendy, I need a drink too. Such an effort so I hope it makes getting dressed easier for you. Cobalt must look terrific on you. I've been trying to find inspiration on Pinteret lately, but as you saw, my daughter just orders the entire damn store to be delivered to my house then we go around returning the duds for days. I'm exhausted and all I got was a new tinted moisturizer. Boo

    1. Really? A tinted moisturizer is all. That does indeed mean a drink is needed. I am digging the cobalt this year.

  11. Crazy about the last two outfits, but then I love blues and green and there is no amount of too much grey for me, I always thinks its such a soft, tactile neutral. Think that green dress will look stunning on you, we need to see a visual with you in it. Don't you just love those bottom leather shoes, am seeking some comfy ones in that British look too so let me know if they are comfy.
Big big thank you for funny, kind lovely comments while I was away. Thank goodness David does not have an i-pad and read my post is all I can say.
I love Merlot myself (what's diff between merlot and oxblood?) but never get around to wearing those great merlot golf type patent leather shoes I have. Think it will look great on your colouring though.
Concentrates the mind to pick clothes like this doesn't it? You are not just doing one item at a time, very practical. I've just done a big old heave ho and so cleansing and calming.

    1. Merlot, oxblood, burgundy, who knows...a marketing ploy. I have cleansed all my closets except Hunter's side but will get to that when I see weakness in him. And thank you for keeping me informed about you wonderful journey. Such a delight to read. Much love.
