Show of hands. Who does this?
I see a turtleneck, a puffer jacket of some sort, and the a nice wool coat...all on top.
I see a pair of skinny jeans and little flats.
Hmmm.
What am I missing here?
I would either be sweating my ass off on top and be comfortable on bottom. Or, I would be warm and snuggly on top and frostbite would be settling in on my tootsies.
Here's another example. J Crew is just easy pickins.
Ya think she's wearing ballet flats or
loafers?
Sorry, I don't always want to wear boots. I want to wear loafers. I want to wear socks with my loafers. My feet are the first thing to get cold and once cold, I am cold the rest of the day. Our weather doesn't require boots and parkas but for a few days...I hope. In the meantime, maybe something like this:
Maybe |
Or:
I can do this |
Or:
She looks adorable. I might end up looking like a dork. |

Just a bit of info that I found particularly funny.
Every once in a while I check my stats on blogger.
Yesterday, some one did a search for "South African Huge Ass".
Guess who's blog they got?! WTF.
Laughing my head off over the huge ass search, that is so funny!
ReplyDeleteYeah here in Canada we wear our wool coats with bare ankles all the time, that's totally an option.
Don't your feet get cold? The fashion powers that be say "no" to socks with loafers but me and my S.A. big badonkadonk really don't give a poop.
DeleteWe'd get frostbite literally, I'm already wearing boots and giant socks all the time, sorry that was my sarcastic voice which is muffled by the internet. ;)
DeleteI was worried :)
DeleteUsually I get big boobs something or another...I was quite taken aback by this one. Who is putting that in their search engine?!
ReplyDeleteHa! Don't you just love blog search stats? Always makes me slightly sad for the fate of civilization. I wear massive socks, uggs, uggs on my uggs. And cashmere bed socks with shearling slippers. I freeze half the year up here so the J crew thing seems nuts to me. If I'm in cute shoes in winter, I'm also in a cab with the heat blasting and a lightweight velvet opera coat. It doesn't happen often.
ReplyDeleteI'm heading for ghostly glow in the dark white skin in a few weeks so it looks like I have tube socks on anyway. An opera coat? Now that's a glamorous life even if you just wear it twice.
DeleteAha! I knew that Blue Booby wasn't your real name!
ReplyDeleteI just wish I knew what post it took him to...I assume him but could be her...the disappointment.
DeleteOh that is too funny! And I totalyy agree about the craziness of the no socks in winter thing. My feet fr eye without socks....
ReplyDeleteOnce my feet are cold I can only warm up in a hot bath. One article said if you must wear socks wear nude hose...like that'll help keep the piggies warm.
DeleteYep, the flats and ballet pumps have officially been replaced by socks and boots today.
ReplyDeleteWe are not there yet, thankfully. Some days I just want socks and shoes to slip on not pull on.
DeleteI don't understand the bare feet thing in the winter either. Not Gonna Happen in the Vava Household!!
ReplyDeleteLol I had someone who came to me finding how to hide...wtf
ReplyDeleteBut I am one of those weirdos bc I don't get cold everywhere so up snd down don't match!!!
I did notice your short sleeves with gloves the other day. I did the SAHA...my new nickname...and after five pages of porn sites I gave up trying to find my blog. So your the expert at hiding eh?
DeleteWeirdos are putting it into their search engines, that's who. Google knows all!
ReplyDeleteSocks for me! People look like dumb asses in coats and no socks.
ReplyDeleteOff to check my stats for weirdos. Have a great day Doll!
Do tell what you find. I can just picture them coming to my site and saying WTF?!
DeleteIn Chicago winters, road and sidewalk salt see that those ballet flats don't even make it to lunch. I've hardly even noticed you're South African...
ReplyDeleteOMG how I love this post. Everything about it, BB -- er, SAHA. :-) I am a perpetually cold-footed, socks-after-October-15th girl -- my entire winter self-dressing routine starts with looking at the weather forecast and then organizing an outfit around boots, booties or a great pair of socks and loafers or oxfords. This thing J. Crew has with sockless shoes reminds me of the way I used to feel at age 30 when I'd park my car two blocks from my law office and scurry, frozen, to work in pumps, pantyhose and Eskimo clothing from mid-shin up. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe question is where do y'all find cute socks? I'm always like a nomad in search of water in the desert this time of year, trolling through TJMaxx, Marshall's, DSW, Target etc. looking for socks that are (1) thin enough to wear with my loafers (I've got narrow feet but thick socks make my shoes hurt. Middle age.) and (2) cotton or a wool blend -- anything but that gross polyester stuff that slides around in your shoes and feels crummy on your feet! and (3) will stay freakin' in place without the heel s-l-i-d-i-n-g down my foot all day. :-)
Ideas??
Me too! I love Smartwool, they are a bit pricey but they really wear well. My husband swears by them in winter when he's out in the cold all day. Garnet Hill has nice cashmere/blend socks with dots or stripes but I wait until there is some kind of discount...or Christmas time.
DeleteThanks shugga! I like SmartWool too, although sometimes they feel too hiking sickish for certain shoes. I'll keep you posted on my quest. :-) Good catch on Garnet Hill -- haven't looked there in a while!
DeleteI'll dissent :) If I could never wear socks, that would be fine with me. I'll go barefoot at home as much as I can. I was taking out the trash cans last winter in negative temps wearing no socks and (winter) crocs on my feet. I went out in the snow barefoot a couple of winters ago just for fun. I hate socks, but wear them when 1) I know I'm going to be outside in the cold for an extended period of time or 2) when I think my feet are going to sweat in my Uggs, then I'll wear a very thin ankle sock inside.
ReplyDeleteI like those looks you posted, though - they make socks with shoes pretty cute.
I'll add my W.T.F. to the chorus about the huge ass search. I wonder a lot of things, but I really wonder why specifically South African huge ass?
So you're the muse! Too cute. I much prefer flip flops over anything else but my feet go cold fast and then I just can't seem to warm up.
DeleteLove all these outfits - you're from South Africa??? (JK) we must compare net balling positions being part of the colonies and all.
ReplyDeleteEverytime I do that thing of rolled up trousers and sleeves and stuff, I just end up rolling them down again. There must be a sleeve shusshing and pant rolling gene and I don't have it.
That parka is awesome. I wear my jacket inside, I love to be toasty at all times
I've tried the rolling thing and just think I look like a dork...but then I'm not a huge fan of skinny pants either. My hubs struggles with rolling his sleeves. He always wants to roll them inwards...weird.
ReplyDeleteI like coming over hear for the laughs and some really great ideas for wearable fashion.
ReplyDeleteThanks baby. Always great to see you.
