My Mournful Month of May

My Mournful Month of May

Thank God, it is almost over.

CRICKET

Baby kitty has been missing for two weeks.  She slept with me one evening and was gone the next day.  She is an indoor/outdoor kitty...one of the risks we all took.  Hasn't returned to eat.  Sigh.  I do not think she is still with us.  Of course, she left one week before Emily returned from college.  We had her for roughly nine years.  Although I affectionately called her Evil Kitty, she was a sweetheart and is missed terribly.

MY FISH

I have a lovely water feature with a waterfall, stream and pond, and six fish.  Well...I now have only one fish.  They, the professionals, came to clean out my pond.  The idiots did not think my beautiful fish needed an aerator.   ***Graphic Photo**

Three were dead when we found them.  One catfish was slightly vibrating, we tried rubbing him but he died.  One was very passive and I think pregnant.  She made it through the night but died the next afternoon.  The last, Lightening (yes, they all had names...we've had them since the kids were small), is the sole survivor.  He is quite traumatized.  They will be bringing me more fish later this week.  Cricket makes me sad.  My fish just make me mad.  Should never have happened.

HUNTER

He's still alive!  Don't worry.

Finally got him to have an MRI on his shoulder.  Remember when he fell off the horse back in August 2014?  You are suppose to have four shoulder tendons per shoulder.  He has two.  He will be having surgery Friday June 5th.  He shall be in a full arm sling for 4 weeks and then therapy for several months.  Hopefully I won't kill him along the way.  Wish me luck.

    1. Not so sure if it's safe to be a Harrison pet these days. Minnie and Maggie keep watching me suspiciously.

  2. Oh so sad about Kitty. Poor Cricket, bit of a character and so purty too.
I always feel awful for inside cats, love to think that cats are stalking through the grass, so you gave her a good life.
Good news about The Hunter Hubstar! He is looking better than ever and you look beautiful in this photo despite the awfulness of May.
I admire you having that lovely three dimensional water feature going on plus fish. We just had a simple water over the tiles thing and it pretty much drove us crazy with bills from an array of pool guys, tiles falling off twice and white stuff everywhere.

Take care of yourself and hoping that June brings good things for you

  6. Crying over your kitty. That just breaks my heart. I'm so sorry! Shoulder surgery is tough. You're lucky Hunter isn't like my husband, who would make me suffer more than him!

    1. Well....I think all men can be big babies. I'm sure there will be lots of discomfort, irritability, and just plain bitchiness from both of us.

  7. I feel so bad about your poor helpless critters.

Frankly I think Male Stoicism is not a good thing, I'm in favor of making the male patient take the pain pill and shut up.

Himself played football in the old days - when A Man was Someone Who Played Hurt. A few years ago, he needed colon surgery (all is fine now), and part of the pre-op was a full-body set of X-rays. I noticed the surgeon studying them and muttering, went over and asked what's up. "Idiots sent me the wrong damn films. These show an old shoulder fracture - it's not in his medical history. We'll need to postpone." He told me how old he thought the fracture was. Well, surgeon may know medicine, but I know my guy. I explained football in the days before there even were team physicians. Everything else on the films corresponded to the medical history, and the surgery proceeded. To this day Himself claims not to remember any post-game shoulder pain. Jerk.

    1. I have to feed him drugs just so he won't want to work the next day. Keep him good and looped for two or three days. He has had this issue for at least 9 months. Now that he knows he needs surgery he can't weed eat, hedge, etc. Hmpff.

  8. Very sad for the loss of your family pets, I am hoping Kitty will return? But the fish, that was just stupidity on the part of the professional pond guys, who definitely should have known better.
Oh my gosh poor Hunter and poor you. I hope it all goes well. We're here for you when the going gets frustrating ;) xo

    1. I'd like to echo these sentiments, too. This does sound as if you've had a rough patch after returning from your fabulous trip to Italy, Blue Booby. Hope June goes better for you! I hope Kitty returns!

    2. She has "disappeared" for a few days before...but she always eats, we just don't see her. We don't really leave in an area where the neighbors take in a stray dog/cat. They all just seem to roam. We did ask though.
