My older sister has a birthday today. She has turned the glorious age FIFTY!
There she is with my kids when she was forty:
Just kidding, that's my very beloved grandmother .
Anyway, over the years I have adored her, been jealous of her, hated her, been indifferent towards her, cared for her, laughed with her, bitched with her, whined with her, been sick with her...
And loved her.

Evil sister pinching the shit out of me. |

Yeah, cookies! |

Who the hell cut our bangs?! Mom? |
|
These dolls actually peed. So cool. |
|
This is why I never wear pink. |
|
Halloween. I am a gypsy. She's a homeless hobo. |

Our ugly stage |
We must have broken the camera because I have nothing until college...
|
Eighteen and Twenty years old. Damn girl, we are looking hot. |
|
Seattle before our Alaskan Cruise...we call this our fat hearty stage. |
|
She braved the Orlando cold and went to Disney with us. |

Last year at the old folks house. |
She is beautiful, smart, funny, and O L D E R !
Ha, after all those years...who wishes they were the YOUNGER sister now?!
Happy Birthday Leesa! I love you!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteWhat an endearing post. Such fun (although always a shade embarrassing) to have old family photographs. They spark so many memories of times spent happily and not so happily together. But, whatever, it is lovely to see that you maintain a close bond with your sister and that you can share so much of your lives.
We too send our birthday wishes and many happy returns!
We lived through it and have pictures to prove it. I love looking at the old photos. Not all flattering and although they may not all be fond memories, they are memories. With a sense of humor life moves on.
Deleteyou are both adorable! Is it me hallucinating or do I spot Hunter with hair?????
ReplyDeleteThat would be Tyler giving his best impression. Hunter hasn't had hair on his head for nearly fifteen years now.
Deletei was looking at your post on my phone, but they look so alike! And aren't you glad I was kind enough to not make hair comments? ;)
DeleteYou have such a beautiful family, thank you for sharing it with us.
Love ya baby.
DeleteExcellent pictures! Don't you just love the potential embarrassment quotient of old photos? Especially any from the 80s!
ReplyDeleteWell thank you. Sis wasn't happy with a few but I told her I was right there with her. I love the photos.
DeleteDelightful photos-- she really is pinching you!! I hope my girls are always as close as this. Good 80's looks there, too.
ReplyDeleteI have been told my entire life that the first year I did nothing but cry in every photo...well, I think I just cried all the time.
DeleteYou and your sister are too adorable and those older pictures are hilarious. I have an older sister too and I hadn't thought about it but she will turn 50 before me, yeah!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your sis!
All those years of hearing "the oldest" and wanting to be the oldest...loving it now ;)
DeleteYou and your sis were total cuties - and still are. Love the honesty and hilarity and realness of the this post. Me and my sisters have ups and downs (mountains and valleys some years) and still have many (verbal) pinches but we always can have a good old laugh over goblets of the goodstuff
ReplyDeleteShe's quite fun and I do laugh when I'm with her. Fortunately she has a thick skin, a sense of humor, and a penchant for bourbon.
DeleteMy younger sisters never had any respect for me as the eldest one, I always tell Mum but she never does anything. So unfair.
DeleteYou two look great!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday, Leesa!
Thanks! We are not too shabby.
DeleteWell Happy Birthday to older sis! Love those old pics and I'll be joining your sis at the half century mark in a few months although you both are holding up quite well. Thank God we didn't have social media in the 80s!
ReplyDeleteWell Happy Early Birthday! Hopefully you are handling your upcoming day better than my sister did. It was a bit traumatic but she pulled through it.
DeleteOh, I love the pinch picture! My sister was born when I was 3. Other little friends also had new babies. When our mothers weren't looking, we'd see whose baby could make the loudest noise - we'd reach into the carriage and poke. Or pinch.
ReplyDeleteI think mine has forgiven me. She must've because now she's my best friend.
So that is what is going through evil older sister's head. I do believe we have come full circle because I do adore her.
DeleteLovely! Happy birthday to your Leesa. I deeply envy women with sisters.
ReplyDeleteIt's had it's moments :). I do think it tickles my folks to know we are close. Plus there is such a history.
DeleteThese are great pictures. I nearly stroked out when you said the first one was your sister. I thought, wow, she's had a tough life. Great pictures throughout he years. I didn't have a sister, and always wished one of my snotty older brothers had been a girl. I had the exact same bangs you did! WTF was Mom thinking? Belated Happy Birthday to Leesa. xoJennfier
ReplyDeleteShe enjoyed my little homage and should be on the beach as I type this.
DeleteJust now catching up on blogs so late to the party for your sis but please wish her Happy BD. Love the photos! I'm telling you our moms must have consulted each other about the blueprint for the bangs! My sister and I definitely sported some cut hideously short! Thanks goodness that look has passed. I think her name was baby tender love but I had a doll just like the one your sister is holding.
ReplyDeleteI do believe you are right about Baby Tender Love!
DeleteBelated happy birthday to Leesa! I love family pictures and it's easy to see there's a lot of love and laughter there :)
