Dedicated to the One I Love

Once upon a time a little baby boy was born in Roswell, New Mexico.

Four months later, a little baby girl was born in Germany.

The little boy grew up with his older brother...

While the little girl grew up with her older sister...

Until their families both moved to Fort Walton Beach, Florida in the summer of 1979.
They finally met in their 10th grade year of high school.  The young man saw the young lady's ass and told his friend he would marry that ass one day...they were both 15 years young.

They went to prom...

They both graduated...

They went to college together...

They graduated and in 1990 they were married...

They spent a few years working, having fun, etc...

Then he knocked her up and they started their family...

Years have passed with many adventures...

The kids are off at college...

And this girl...

loves this boy...

Happy 24th Anniversary Hunter.  Next year you are taking my ass to Italy!

  2. I just loved your story! Do you think people still know when they've met "the one"? I did, and believe me I was not happy about the timing, I'd just gotten a promotion and there was a very interesting offer outstanding in DC, travel included.... No regrets, but I will admit to just a little curiosity every once in a while.

    2. It was a bit tough at such a young age. And yes, I broke up with him quite a few times because I thought I was too young to have found my one true love. By the time we were 20 we were in that serious puppy dog love phase where it hurt so bad not to see each other. Yes, Hunter and I were meant to be together. I pray for my kids and their eventual spouses...I want them to experience something similar to what we have.

    2. Hey BB, lean on that handsome boy because you're right, no excuses for a second time in Husbandland! :-) We gallivant a lot, like y'all do, and our #1 place hands-down with no contest is the Makanyane Safari Lodge, a tiny place on the Madikwe Game Reserve in northwest South Africa. See www.makanyane.com. There honestly aren't enough superlatives in my vocabulary to describe the place and the total experience. A few highlights -- it's out of the mosquito and malaria zone, so zero bugs. The Madikwe is a beautiful reserve (very different from Kruger) with fabulous game viewing, and the game aren't radio-collared or tagged so the rangers are really tracking them, which is huge fun to watch and learn. The accommodations are gorgeous and luxe but somehow rustic and seem to just grow out of the earth. The food and drinks are phenomenal and non-stop. The service is dot-the-i's-cross-the-t's perfect, and most of the staff has been there for years, so they behave like a friendly family with each other and with warm, gracious ease toward the guests. It's just a hellaciously fantastic vacation, and we never tire of it. We've been to Africa three times and on each trip we visit some new places, including other safari lodges in South Africa and other countries. They've all been wonderful too. But we will always go back to the Makanyane for a few nights at the end of each trip, because every time we do we realize it's still top of our list. So -- you asked. :-) I know y'all went on safari recently, but if you EVER think of going back, get in touch with me -- we've sent so many friends to the Makanyane (who all come away having drunk the Koolaid too) that we have earned a special "Mate Rate" for our pals. Happy to set you up! And by the way, we LOVE LOVE LOVE Italy.

    3. We are actually hoping to go back to Africa fall 2015...my 50th bday. We fly straight from Atlanta to Joburg and usually spend a few days either coming or going. I will definitely touch base with you when the planning starts.

  13. A great love story! I thought my husband and I were young to have met at 18 but you got us beat. It does seem harder for the kids now but hopefully they will also find true love. I consider myself very lucky to have someone who is there every step of the journey. Happy Anniversary to you and Hunter. Next year the big 25!

  14. What a great story! Hunter is a keeper for sure. You and I could be sisters. My hair was cut short in an identical pixie haircut as a child! I think that is why I have always liked longish hair on me as an adult!
