Dyeing over here

Yes, I actually got something accomplished recently.

After going to three different stores, workin' hard, I found RIT Dye.  But of course they were out of navy (damn it) so I did a quick pick between shit brown and dark green.

My blouse with the mystery stains.

For those that may do this, TIP...put gloves on before you open the packet.
I decided to do the stock pot method.

Hot water, dye, blouse, stir constantly for thirty minutes.

Ta Da

it came out a nice shade of dark green.  Dyed the blouse but not the thread.

Or the zipper.  Bit disappointed in that, but I'll never see it when I have it on.  I did remove the thread and tag by the zip.

Finished project.  Not sure what that is above my right boob but it came out perfectly.
And I was just going to throw it away.  Pat on the back for me.  Now I do not have to even wear a cami underneath.

And now since I am channelling Martha Stewart...

If your tulips are starting to wane, gently fold back the petals and you'll get a bit more time with them.  See below:

I am stuck inside this week end...it's suppose to rain anyways...because I just had my face burned this morning.  Something called Photodynamic Therapy.  It's to help get rid of AK's (Actinic Kerotosis).  I have also treated my hands and forearms with some kind of cream.  They look like they have been repeatedly dragged on asphalt.  I have been told my face will not be nearly as bad and healed in a week.  I sure hope so.  So, since my week end will suck, hope you have a great one!  Off to kill the pain with some wine.

  2. Shirt turned out great! Never ever knew to do that with tulips...I can't wait to do that. I do like light therapy I tried laser for my freckles once and it was a pain but I loved the result.

  3. Great result! I wish I'd had enough sun in my life to merit PT - too lazy to type big words tonight.

  4. Hmmm, great minds - thinking of doing IPL for collection of strange brownish spots which have manifested themselves on the sides of my face. Interests to learn how you like your results.

    1. Today I look like a red raccoon...severe sunburn, white eyes. You can see "the spots" that are developing. I'll let you know the end result.

    1. Every time I do that to the tulips people ask what flower is that.

  7. I have tried to dye many items over the years...just watch out for when you wash the blouse...wash it separate from everything else..it will bleed. Even after following all the RIT directions I still find items will bleed. I want to try the newer versions that come in a liquid...probably less messy than the powder packets.

    1. I washed separately like they said, then washed a load of towels to make sure dye wasn't in washer, then washed old white towel to make doubly sure. The blouse is actually to be hand washed or dry cleaned...I do hand wash on washer and will now definitely wash alone after your warning. Did not see any liquid dye. Just had the tried and true that has been around forever.

  9. Bravo to you. I would have just chucked the blouse. Sorry about the pain, have another drink. I bought a Tria in home laser, and love what I see starting to happen. I've had oodles of IPL's, laser for broken capillaries...you've heard of it, I tried it. Hope your happy with the results. xo

    1. The dry cleaner suggested I dye it otherwise I would have tossed it. Right now i look like a red raccoon. Tomorrow it should be better.

  10. Many years ago I decided to dye some white bedspreads some shade of burgundy. They turned out a very unattractive shade of mauve. Have not been brave enough to try again. But good for you. Your blouse looks like it is a nice deep green. Sorry your face hurts. I haven't tried any of the lasers or peels. Let us know the end results as I am open to suggestions for things that are worth it from a cosmetics perspective. Hopefully the recovery is short and wine helps.

    1. I am taking daily photos to see the recovery and the results. There were two spots that were of concern and they definitely reacted.

  11. You did a nice job on the blouse. Stock pot method looks easy over trashing the washing machine. I have had acid peels done on my face and neck. It took me about a week to get over it. It was a annoying because it peeled and peeled and you are not supposed to help it along.

    1. The peeling will be the hardest part. I am one who gets great satisfaction from peeling a long piece of dead skin. I would say it has started to flake.

  12. Hello,

Well, you have certainly given the blouse a new lease of life. If only rejuvenating ourselves was as easy as boiling in a pot for a few hours!

We have no idea what the treatment is to which you are referring but the after effects do sound horrid. Whatever, we identify closely (perhaps too closely) with reaching for the wine bottle in hours of need........
