Abracadabra

I have an amazing magic trick that I seem to pull off very single time I go to Target.  No matter what I am looking for, how many items I purchase, if I even purchase what made me go in the first place, I CAN NOT get out of there without dropping $100.  Every damn time.  This is my haul from today:

I went for Rit Dye..remember that stuff, I can't find it anywhere.  I have a lovely blouse I have worn exactly once and that I have stained with I suspect red wine.  I even tried the dry cleaner when I had no luck.  She suggested I dye it.  I'm thinking maybe navy?  My next stop will be JoAnn's Fabric Store.  Anyway, I did get 2 packs of Probiotics which aren't cheap but work very well for me, gardening shears, a lighter, quart plastic bags, lotion, 5 sticky hooks, and a bird house.  Okay, one item I really didn't need.

Grand total.....$105.46.  It's Magic!!

I also went to Fresh Market for flowers...did not want green carnations from Food City.  I spied this interesting piece of fruit:

As the tangerine-tangelo season wanes, Sumo citrus will be in some area markets as late as May.

It's a Sumo Tangerine.

Hunter and I split it for lunch along with two mini chicken pot pies.  We are now on a serious diet because of our decadence.  Yep, no alcohol except weekends and we are measuring out and counting calories.  We started today.  This morning Hunter was in high whine mode about how he is always on a diet.  Of course I looked him up and down and replied "I don't think so".  At lunch he informed me his tape worm has kicked in and he was starving.  Sigh.

  1. We don't have a Targay equivalent here and thankfully so bc I could imagine doing the same everytime I went in there! They always seem to have great diffusion or collaborations like H&M does. I love any tangerine derivative. And yes dye the blouse navy - such a good color and especially with your coloring. or emerald green. I have shoes I am about to dye when I get my act together and the people recommend royal blue, amethyst or emerald green and then on to black to give it a third life. good luck with regime! x

    1. I can go with the kids just to get candy for a movie. Bam! $100! I'll get coffee, picture frame, t shirt, it never makes sense. I do try to avoid also.

    1. I am lucky if my Food City even carries toothpaste...who uses that stuff around here? I will try super Krogers then I will ask for your assistance.

  4. Did you try hydrogen peroxide on the wine stain?
It even takes out DRIED stains!
I do the same thing at Wal-Mart....always find something I HAVE to have! hahaha!
    Enjoy your week....and the dieting!
    Cheers!

    1. I did try hydrogen peroxide. Not sure what it is but it is stubborn. We are using MyFitnessPal app, free, and hoping it keeps us on track.

    2. Another good free app is Lose It!
Enter your food and exercise....we could be friends! Hahaha!

  5. I really liked this post. It is so true about Target. People have been telling me this for years about their trips to Target. What is compelling is that the prices are so good and the cosmetic department is full of inexpensive alternatives to my very pricey beauty regimen.

    1. I am even getting my dogs prescription filled there. Saves me ten bucks. A friend and I waited outside opening day. Now I only go when I have made a list...but that doesn't seem to help.

  6. I swear that the personnel at WalMart starts bowing as I enter the store. I try to stay away and pay a little more at the grocery store since I think I save money in the long run. I am a sucker for a "good deal". A 5 pack of scissors at Costco for 10 bucks - I'm in! What was is I needed five scissors for? Good luck on the diet. I got a little bit of weight off last year by starving. Now I'm just fighting the daily battle to keep it off. How do people stay the same weight and size forever?

    1. We tried SAMs Club but bought the 24 pack of nutty bars instead of the 12 but ate in the same time frame. Not sure how people keep it off. Not too many do here especially after forty and the metabolism goes to hell.

  7. Cutting back on food and booze is NOT FUN. I'm off wine and potato chips right now and it sucks. Love that treat!
I have this same problem with Target which is why I don't let myself go there more than once a month. I spend $200! Every time! It is the best place for tp, paper towels, cleaning products. Also all the bathroom stuff, shampoo, soap, we go through lots of that stuff around here. Still I can never believe I spend at least $200 without fail.
Good luck on the reduction plan, I feel your pain.

    1. When the kids left our TP intake was cut over half. When they were home for Christmas I swear they went through a roll a day. Not sure if I could give up wine just to lose weight...it would have to be for a medical emergency. I really do need to get Hunter to lose weight so we are in it together.

  8. I have to start a serious diet too. The spring clothes are a wee bit snug! I also can't get out of Target without a big dent. It's a problem.

    1. I do like this app. My dove chocolate bites are 35 calories a piece...I was eating six. 1 after lunch. 1 after dinner. And I thought I was the only magician with Target.

  9. I need a diet big time, and keep putting it off! We started by only drinking on weekends, then added Sunday night, then added Monday...and soon it was all bets off. TarJay usually nicks me for $200 so you did well. I admit I probably wouldn't have fallen for the bird house, but something equally unnecessary would have come home with me. Good luck with the diet...wish I could motivate myself to start.

    1. I try not to meander at Target...that's when I get in trouble. But I walked all through the store looking for the dye when I passed the sale section and saw the bird house. I try to get one bird house a year...I am up to six now.

  10. Kind of magic...and yet spookily telepathic. I say you're lucky to do get out of there with that - what about TP and all those bits and bobs from the $1 bin that add up to another $100?

    1. Never dyed anything so am looking at this as an adventure. Still a bit peeved about the stainage and a bit afraid it will all dye except those spots.

  12. I feel ya sista.$100 Every. Single. Time.... And I don't even like Target. Whole Foods has been showing off those sumos also-how did it taste? I usually haul away a crate of clementines to fight off the rickets but these exotic cousins have me intrigued...

    1. The sumos, once peeled is still the size of a small orange. It was juicy and sweetly tart. I still love clementines.

  13. I have this problem at Whole Foods. I try not to go more than once a month, as there are a few things I can't find elsewhere. But then there's always a cheese for $#@*^%#% a pound that would be lovely with that wine from new Zealand, such a good price let's get 3 in case we like it, how about a few of those house smoked chicken pieces to make the best chicken salad ever, and there's the organic extremely virgin stomped by unicorns flax seed oil to prevent wrinkles and clean out the arteries..that'll be $200.

My daughter and I dye her clothes with pretty good results, but it makes a mess.

    1. We do not have a Whole Foods although I have visited them in other states/cities. We also can not sell wine in grocery stores...yet. A bill is being passed and we get to vote on it next year.

I figure I'll need gloves and some bin I want to turn navy.

  14. BB, another funny as hell and on-point post. I swear you're my Southern sister from another Tarjay mother. The "$100 Target rule" has been a family joke about me for so many years that when the rule started it was the "$40 Target rule". LOL!

    Rit dye at Amazon, shugga:

  15. Thanks for looking out for me. After all the comments I am terrified a Whole Foods will come out here. Target is all the money pit I need.
