Run.Run.Run....Athleta Reviews

I'm still alive!

I have decided to run a 5K this summer with Emily.  Oh boy.

This is now what Emily looks like...

I usually jog around a track on our property.  Many years ago I measured it out and five laps is roughly one mile.  Once a week Em and I have decided to go over to the community college to run their trails.  Something about running in goose poop makes it all the better.  The first time I took my ped meter.  We walked the first lap and it said one lap was .3 miles.  We would run three to four laps. Off we went.  I ran one lap.  I walked one lap.  I ran one lap.  If my ped meter is correct, I roughly run a 40 minute mile.  Good God.

I decided if I am going to do this thing  I might as well look the part.

Athleta had a very nice Memorial Day sale...

2 in 1 Pulse Shortie, Size L, Cerulean Blue

I shall be running stadium seating in no time.  Ha!

I probably ordered the wrong size.  Athleta has always run small but I will order a medium next time.
One of my biggest pet peeves with running shorts is the bunching I get between my thighs.

These have an inner short that stays put because of this band thingie on the inside hem.  See below.

There is a zip pocket back waist area.

Some reflective bits for those running evenings or early mornings.
Not me...my drill sergeant prefers to run at the hottest part of the day...anywhere from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM

Not too high waisted.

Took them out Saturday for their very first run.  They were terrific.  Washed and then dried flat.  Ready to go again tomorrow.

Pulse Short, size large, Granite Grey

Soon.  Very Soon.

They have the built in brief that I am not a fan of.  These didn't bother me a bit though.

Internal Drawsting.

Again, I should have ordered size medium.  I usually take an 8 or 10 in pants.  Go by the size chart.
I will keep to wear around the house and run in if the other shorts are dirty.  I really like the 2 in 1 shortie and will order in black during their next sale promo.  Emily has expressed a desire for a pair also.

Pacifica UPF Tee, size L, Catalina Green

This was the right fit for the girls.  And a very beautiful color.

Zippered pocket at small of back.

Forerunner Tee, Size L, Cerulean Blue

I did not take any pictures.  Thought this was a bit big but the medium would probably be too tight.  The darker areas are all vented material.  There is a zippered pocket at the right hip area.

Although most people walk faster than I jog, I am going to look great in my new duds!

  1. It is always so inspiring to buy new workout clothes! I always check the outlet we have close to us and have gotten a few Nike and Under Armour pieces.
You look great! Good luck with running:)

  2. Go girl! You look amazing in your new gear! Running is a bit of an acquired taste and takes a lot of practice and training. Hang in there!

    1. I used to run in college and have kept up jogging. But this winter was too cold and wet for almost five months. Em laps me every time. The slap on the ass when she passes me is a bit demoralizing.

  3. Well done you! I am also thinking about starting to work out again. It has been too long and I think it is really needed from a health point of view. I see some of my mothers friends who were thin but never work out not faring so well in their old age and realize it isn't about losing weight only but health...Keep it up!

    1. I agree with the health over weight. So much I want to do over what I hope will be many years. I need my body to do those things. I expect you to start tomorrow.

  4. Good on you. And i like your running clobber, colorful and flattering, I keep thinking I should do a long race and my sisters say "Don't poop at the end like you see on the telly." I think they might be thinking of a marathon, but still. They are so supportive. Still I'm not much of a runner- Maybe I'll stand by my computer with a choccy bar in hand for you.

    1. See, my problem is I literally have to poop during the run. I know, TMI...but really...

    1. I have to do it first thing in the morning or I have way to many excuses. Now Em's home she makes me no matter what. Tough cookie.

  6. Oh that last one, hate her.

Athleta does run small, I think. I can no longer run, but never liked it anyway. Nice speedy walk-- now that's my deal.

    1. Does she not have a runners bod...long and lanky. I really need to refer to myself as a jogger. Of course when we see people "running" I always ask if I am faster...the kid on crutches is faster.

  7. I have had numerous injuries from track & field in my youth (and later from volleyball), so I no longer run, but I walk a lot. Great shorts!

    1. Some people in my family classify my running technically as walking. I do really like the shorts. No more pulling them from my crotch every few feet.

  8. Good for you. I used to jog, and like it...luckily my bunions have put an end to that practice. When I did "run" mothers walking baby strollers would pass me. Humiliating. I think having the right clothes is motivating too. Good luck...for gods sake, no one better give Emily a whistle. xoJennifer

    1. Em's a motivator...which I do need. We are off to exercise this morning then to the mall. I may bitch but I do love her being home.

  9. Hilarious! Great reviews. I might need to pick up the first shorts.
Your time with Emily sounds awesome! Enjoy it:)

    1. I definitely recommend the first short. It stays put and does not add weight or warmth. Does say you can dry in dryer but I am afraid I'd melt the band thingie.

  10. Have I said before that I love your outfit reviews? And you have really spoken to me with this one as I am also hitting the pavement hard lately and the search for comfy outfits is a constant in my life. I have had my eye on the first shorts and your review has clinched the deal for me. Was looking through the Title Nine catalog yesterday-a workout in itself as all the eye rolling caused by those insipid little "bios" is tantamount to High Intensity Interval Training-and have seen a few thing in there that I may try.
Grind it out, BB. You are a champion for running during the heat of the day.

ps You are so sweet to post my picture at the end of your post...

    1. Emily made me do squats yesterday and then I had to run this morning...help me, please...never ordered from Title Nine but do recommend Athleta quality. Love, love, love the shorts. No more yanking the shorts out of my crotch mid run.
