After what seems like FOREVER suffering with "the hack", I do believe I am finally well, willing, able to take on the New Year.
This is what we have been doing:
|
Drinking, eating, repeat |
We had some very generous family, friends, subs, and vendors. We got a bit fat. I am now training to run another 5 K this coming summer...this time I plan to run the whole way. Em will do it with me. She's now up to 10 miles in her training for the 1/2 marathon. If you have some time, please visit
her running buddy's blog here. They need encouragement!

Yep, that's studly and I in Vegas...The Wynn, or maybe Encore. We had a great time with the old people. My folks have requested to be referred to as something besides "the old people". I suggested Near Deads but they did not seem too receptive to that either. Maybe Marvy Mike and Sassy Sandy? Suggestions are welcome. The smoke filled casinos set me back with my creeping crud. Alcohol seemed to help. Won a bit of money. Yay!

All flowers. Makes me ache for spring. |
|
Bellagio. Year of the Goat/Ram. |
|
Bellagio. Who's ready to garden? Anyone? |
That's all I have. We did go see an Illusionist/Magician at Tropicana one evening. Was silly fun. I must have looked quite special (in my Hermes scarf from Chicago - still love it) because the guy picked ME from the audience. I had to write my phone number on his bicep. I made up a number...I panicked giving my number to a complete stranger. I also got four separate comments about the J Crew elephant tee I have on above. Okay, I wore it two days but nobody mentioned that. A hostess, a security guard, Marvy Mike, and some chick at the airport all said they liked it. A winner.

We are gearing up to remodel our bathroom. I have everything picked out. Just waiting on my builder and a few days of nice weather.

I am embracing the grey. |

It's pretty. Finally got a bit of exotic in my life.

I have seen in theaters The Hobbit, Into the Woods, and American Sniper. I have watched at home The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (?), The Equalizer, Lucy, and A Walk Among Tombstones(?). I am presently reading Wild. That about covers it all except...
These guys came to see me a couple weeks ago:
So how is everybody's new year so far?
Love the update. You give the best nicknames. After Wild do read Dear Sugar. You'll laugh, you'll cry. The Bellagio is outdoing itself as always I see. Vegas is so subtle!!
ReplyDeleteHope your having a great year so far. I'm am enjoying Wild and will look into Dear Sugar. The Bellagio always does a bang up job with their themed flower decorations. Just found out we missed the Adult Entertainment Expo by one week...now I would have taken a lot more pictures.
DeleteLOVE the grey tiles, LOVE the snakeskin bag - in fact I might even copycat you on that one!
ReplyDeleteAlso elephant t-shirts, well done you. Looks like there were a few flowers, my Kevin would have been crippled with hayfever, it's always something with him
Love the pic of you two - you look so healthy and happy!
What Obama like in the flesh?
I am thinking of you just about every time I read Wild. Not the heroin, promiscuous sex part but the hiking. Want to thank you again for sharing bits of your experience on the trail with us.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry to read that you have not been well. You seem to have packed in a number of events given your illness. Somehow it is difficult to do anything other than stay at home or in bed when one is under the weather. We trust that are feeling much better now.
We do not think that we could cope with Las Vegas. It all seems so theatrically over the top. However, good that you won some money!
But, what is this about meeting President Obama?. That we would have found so amazingly interesting. What is the Man rather than the President like?
Thank you. Was one of those illnesses that you can still function but hangs on forever. Of course the hacking is a bit disconcerting for those around. President Obama and VP Biden came to Knoxville, TN January 9th. They visited a community college right around the corner and a business by my parents house. It really was a wonderful trip to showcase what we are doing here. Every one put their differences aside and played nice. Did not meet Mr. Obama, but his presence was felt. Mr. Biden seems to follow us. We saw him this summer in Wyoming while we were vacationing.
DeleteT, Leaving Vegas anything other than flat broke is a triumph in my book so even escaping a tiny bit in the black is a cause for celebration. Look forward to your 5K endeavors with Em, I/m working a little Atkins program to get my figure back.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are well my dear.
I tried to bet a bit bigger but I still always bet the minimum. I do consider this trip a win. Hope you are staying warm and cozy. Have not checked the weather. We had a smudge of snow on the ground so they delayed school for two hours. We are a bit pitiful when snow comes down south.
DeleteWe are all a band of brothers I see- I too have taken up a rather....vigorous workout regime to pay for my sins. We shall suffer together.
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful, both of you. You are the sort of people that exude friendliness. Approachable and kind.
Very glad the chest has cleared (speaking of chests, did Marvy Mike and Studley meet up with their old Vegas friend from the last visit?) and that you are going into the new year with a clear chest and a new bathroom. Love the colors. Or should I say the lack of colors (in a good way)
When I downloaded the picture of my picks I thought for a second it was just in black and white. Nope. I love it though and am very happy with my choices. Hunter has ordered just about everything so we WILL be doing this soon. Yay! We did not visit downtown Vegas so no friend. Did see what looked to be a seventy year old hooker, no joke. Didn't have the heart to take her picture.
Deleteps: we refer to our parents as 'the old folks' or if my brothers and i are speaking to one another we refer to them as 'YOUR" parents, like an accusation
ReplyDeleteWow, you've been busy! I had that beast bug for weeks on end. Sucked. I see nothing wrong with old people but how about old farts? Or wise elders?
ReplyDeleteOld farts is a given. Just wait til they read this, I will hear "wise elders" for quite some time:). I am glad you are back to full health also. I kept waking up expecting it to have passed...took forever.
DeleteHello, first time to comment. You are a hoot! I will never get away with calling the parents Near Deads. No, you don't look big but I hear you on overindulging over holidays and vacations.
ReplyDeleteI felt bloated from Thanksgiving until about ten days ago. Not a good feeling...pants became my enemy. My father, when I was a girl, actually called older people either near deads or wrinkles.
DeleteThat would be "wrinklies".
DeleteLMAO-near deads....you are hilarious! Looks like a fun trip to Vegas. I haven't been in over 10 years and only ever visited for work. DH won't go-he only ever went for bachelor parties. I'd love to go back to see the shows and people watch-cheap fun for me-though the shopping is legendary. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteWe go to Vegas once a year for four nights. Just enough time to justify the flight, have fun, and not get into too much trouble. There is just so much to do there.
DeleteYou are hilarious! I have been eating like it's going out of style bc of the cold. Something primal...
ReplyDeleteI went to Las Vegas once. Lasted an afternoon then had to leave. I might give it another try. I hope you train well and have all the kit and stretches etc, be gentle and remember your heart gets fitter before your ligaments etc! Keep well darl x
Our first trip to Vegas did not go well...a bit shell shocked. My side of the family make it a family reunion of sorts. After eleven years, going every year, there is a level of comfort in the places and the people.
