Here I am again trying to figure out what to wear.
Hunter and I are going to the Glassworks Ball at our local museum. It is black tie and I haven't a thing to wear. So...let's email our very good Anthropologie Personal Assistant and see what she comes up with.
Now I did tell her I wanted something a bit artsy fartsy but not over the top. She came up with several "looks" that included shoes, jewelry, bag, etc. And express and if needed over night
shipping was free. Unfortunately, the dress I really wanted was sold out
and my second choice was on backorder.
I thought this would have been perfect but OUT OF STOCK. Just not meant to be.
SOLD OUT. Plus a bit out there and was expensive (I think over $500...could be wrong).
This is all kinds of pattern matching.
Let's start with the top. Chiffon like sheer outer layer with dotted camisole underneath. The camisole is fully attached at the back but not the front.
About two sizes too small. The girls were just punishing those poor buttons.
The bottom front has a few buttons also. The fabric is stiff and sequiny and quite pretty.
Front. What's with the bow?
Back. The back panel is just regular 'ol material to caress your tush I assume.
No not really.
I would say the bottom is about 1/2 to 1 size too big. I really liked the concept.
The execution just didn't work for me. Truthfully if you have a bit of pear shape it would be
perfect for your body.
NEXT!
Why not?
The material is pretty. These are IRL colors.
Like little postage stamps
Underneath
Bow tie at the shoulder. I will never be able to replicate.
Gave it my best.
Do you put the bow in the front, on top, really doesn't matter because all you will notice are these...
My girls are now their own mountain range. Note to self: quit trying pleats on the chest.
Side shot of Mount Boobaliscious.
Big Sigh.

Carissima Sheath, size 8
Okay this is the one I liked but didn't have my size. Upon careful review, from those wonderful Anthro reviewers, several ladies said it ran big...so I went down a size because they had the 8.
Lacy back detail.
This is what the girls will be contained in. Sewn in slip underneath.
That is not my belly skin, that is slip.
Sorry a bit dark. But it does fit quite well, thank you.

Side shot.
With my shoes and bag.
Is it too risqué? Why have I started asking myself "Am I too old for this?" |

What I actually have in my own closet that may be a contender..
My version of a tuxedo.
I found my inner
Rynetta and just went for it. It is over the top but lovely.
I like this outfit. Just feels very "heavy" to me. Something I would wear fall/winter not Spring to an Art Glass Extravaganza.
Dress or Pants? What do you think?
You've tried on some real stunners, here! I like that these are eclectic and surprising choices for a gala. On the hanger, I love the Lana Dress. The mix of textures and fabrics is so different and pretty. I really appreciated that you included all of the close-up shots of the fabrics. But on you, I really like the Carissima Sheath. I did wonder if it was slip or skin showing through, so I'm glad you clarified, but still I really like it. I don't think it's risque. It's sexy, but more because of the shape than the nude slip. It looks very chic and feminine. What a fun event to dress for, even if it is a little stressful finding the right knock-out look!

The Lana Dress is a stunner. It was a real disappointment when I barely got the first buttons cinched. I do really love the Carissima in navy just need to bring my confidence to pull it off.
DeleteI love the black dress - looks very foxy indeed, and you are not in the slightest bit too old for it.
ReplyDeleteI also love the Tux look - I don't think it's too heavy at all.
I'm not a fan of those other dresses : too fussy and whimsical for my personal taste, and I think they are more suited to willowy beach types.....
Black dress is hawt!!
It's navy! Which is always up my alley. Sometimes I forget I am a Marilyn Monroe instead of a Gwennie Paltrow and am dazzled by the pretty. Then I try on and wonder what the hell I was thinking. Still undecided.
DeleteI love the tux look. The most flattering IMHO and so elegant. No matter what - you are a hot mama. Just be comfortable and you will have fun!
ReplyDeleteI love the tux look too. Sometimes I think I want to step out of the box a bit. May let hubby decide for me. And yes I am hot, thank you for reminding me baby.
DeleteI like the black dress, but I think you will feel the most you in the tux and look awesome! Poor you - I am exhausted for you!
ReplyDeleteOh it was a bit disheartening but I do really love the dress..and it's navy to boot.
DeleteI like the navy dress, it's gorgeous on you and shows off your figure. Of course you look smoking in your le smoking tuxedo too, yeah let Hunter decide, that's what I'd do.
ReplyDeleteI love this post, I felt like we all went shopping for your dress together!
He shall see tonight.
DeleteMy two cents is for the navy lace dress. I am wearing a black lace dress to my niece's wedding this weekend. On the one hand safe but on the other classic and timeless. I must say yours is definitely sexier than mine. You go girl! I can feel your pain in loving different dresses but not being able to fit the girls in the space required by many of them. You look great in either option but I say go with the hot dress while you still got it! Have fun.
ReplyDeleteCan always count on you baby. Such great advice. Need to shake the old thoughts from my head.
DeleteThe tux is fabulous but I agree, not as springy. Maybe with a more open shoe? (Loves the reds but in the name of making it lighter…) I adore that sheath on you. Va va voom. I have serious curve envy. That'd be the winner for me but good idea to let the hubs have a vote.
ReplyDeleteI embrace the curve. Thank you.
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteLove the black number and surely it could be even more fabulous with the red shoes. It fits you so beautifully and gives just the edge needed for an Art event. The other dresses were pretty but rather déjà vu in a 1960s kind of way. The little black dress looks perfectly up to date.
Whatever, the event itself sounds so exciting and fun. Enjoy!
Ooh, never thought to wear the red shoes. The event will be amazing. Richard Jolley is unveiling an amazing new exhibit. I shall try to do better with my photography.
DeleteI vote for the lace dress! Since it's navy blue, maybe some purple or metallic shoes?
ReplyDeleteI do have silver shoes...will give those a go too.
DeleteOh I think the tux idea is beyond stunning on you, I love it to bits! The lace one is edgy and saucy too, Hunter would love that.
ReplyDeleteI've had it up to here with my boobs today, they keep growing and old clothes are becoming too tight, if it didn't involve a general, I'd go for a reduction, I hate them, unless I'm wearing a stretchy t shirt they just take over, making dress sizing nigh on impossible, each dress has to be taken on an individual basis, what I would do a for an elegant small C cup.
What a rant, you can see they have really really annoyed me today!
DeleteMy girls can take on a life of their own. I should have gotten a lift and a tuck back when I was in my early thirties. Now I am scared to go under the knife so I just strap 'em up and out they go. Don't even get me started with skinny jeans and my wonder thighs. This is why I am waiting for the house coat to come back in style :)
DeleteI like the dress. I have one question though- why do you buy dresses with patterns when you know that you don't like patterns...really?
ReplyDeleteBecause I just like to upset myself and continually run back and forth to the UPS store. Love you Em.
DeleteTheresa,i like the navy dress on you! I think the pattern dresses are too artsy for that event.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the night wkth whatever you pick!
Shall have fun!
DeleteJust checked Google maps and they are not yet aware of this new geological feature in TN!
ReplyDeleteI have to say I really like that navy dress; some of the Anthro things are a bit too hippy-dippy for you,IMHO ( fine on an old hippie like me, but you are more chic).
I know the girls are big but sometimes they even surprise me. Sometimes I yearn to be hippy dippy but you are right...just not me.
DeleteThat second sold out dress is gorgeous, which doesn't really help you does it? :)
ReplyDeleteYou look stunning in the lace dress, so if you wear that, Hunter may have to buy brass knuckles. I love the tuxedo look, it is really sophisticated and sexy in a very Dietrich kind of way. You really look amazing in everything! I realize I'm not much help, but it's probably because I adore you to bits :)
Hunter thought the lace number was fantastic so that is what I'll be wearing. I will, however, wear the tuxedo number in the fall to an art auction. BTW, back at you...I think you are just wonderful.
DeleteOh , I love that lacy number and it looks fabulous from the back too. You're only showing a bit o see through lacy skin, you could show more in my opinion! I would love to see you in something similar (you've got the good gams girl) with a lower neckline, hinting, nay, showing the girls. The tux is fantastic! I think it's perfect, and love the trou with it and the necklace. Because you already have all the tux courses in your wardrobe, could you splurge on a new clutch or something? I know what you mean that sometimes if you don't have something new, you're not jazzed for the event. I want you to keep trying on more stuff because they made such good blog posts!
ReplyDeleteOh it can be quite torturous trying these things on. I do try to keep a sense of humor otherwise it could be depressing. My girls need no help, they pretty much speak for themselves unless they have become a unibody, then they are really unhappy.
DeleteThat would be uniboob.
DeleteI love the tux. If you don't wear it this time (which I think you should … cannot get black tie = long out of my head, so if you are going to break the rules break them properly!) I definitely hope you will it to other parties!
ReplyDeletePhilippa
That would be 'will WEAR it'. Although I suppose if you will it to other parties, other parties may appear ...
ReplyDeleteI actually have the exact event I plan on wearing the tux...I kept the necklace. Thank you for stopping by and the advice. I'm on board.
DeleteI smiled through all your troubles but burst out laughing (ha, burst) at: My girls are now their own mountain range.
ReplyDeleteI love your tux. If too heavy feeling, what about some heeled sandals and the clutch you have with the dress?
Even better woulda been busted out laughing ...
DeleteSometimes I really forget how big the girls are. Then even I am a bit stunned. Wait until you see my new bathing suit :)
DeleteWell, I'm probably late but I loved the lace dress and red shoes.
ReplyDeleteI have my own wing at the bra store. Where were they in 9th grade, I want to know!
Hunter did pick the dress and the red shoes. We had a great time. Shall post soon about the event but we went straight into Hunter's birthday and Tyler's home. Life is grand.
DeleteAll the dresses are awful. Go with the pant suit.
ReplyDeleteDay late dollar short.
DeleteOops too laye.
ReplyDeleteOh you rich girls and your "problems"! :-)
Oh you poor girls and your "problems"! :-) WTF ?!
DeleteOh, didn't you know? It's only rich girls who worry about stuff like this. Guess we're just more shallow than applepie ;-)
DeleteIf it's any consolation, I have heaps of "problems" like this.
